Despite returning to FedExField after three road games, the Redskins could not defeat the Panthers on Monday night, falling to Carolina by a final of 26-15.

Fourth Quarter: Redskins 15, Panthers 26The Redskins would run one play – an 18-yard completion to Pierre Garçon – before Dustin Hopkins came onto the field for a successful field goal conversion.

Carolina would punt the ball after a seven-play, 47-yard drive that was stopped on third down despite an original calling for pass interference on Mason Foster on third down. The referees huddled and then changed the decision due to the ball not being a catchable pass.

Washington, however, couldn't take advantage and Tress Way came on for his sixth punt on the evening.

The Panthers appeared primed to add to their lead with another Graham Gano field goal attempt, but the former Redskins kicker pulled the ball wide of the field goal posts, to keep the game at 23-12 with 5:37 left in the contest.

The Redskins would drive into the red zone in a response, as DeSean Jackson had a few big catches and Kirk Cousins run with a 15-yard penalty at the end.

But the Redskins could not convert inside the 10-yard line, and Dustin Hopkins would hit a field goal attempt to pull Washington to within eight.

Then with less than two minutes left, Gano would hit on another field goal attempt to make it 26-15.

Washington would get the ball back, but a Jamison Crowder fumble following a reception gave Carolina the ball back one more time before the game ended.

Third Quarter: Redskins 9, Panthers 23The Redskins would fumble the ball on the first offensive play of the third quarter, as quarterback Kirk Cousins was hit from behind before the Panthers recovered the football.  

Two plays later, Cam Newton would hit a touchdown pass to Mike Tolbert. Graham Gano added the extra point to make it 20-9.

Washington's next possession would last just three plays before having to punt the ball back to Carolina. On the return, Quinton Dunbar was removed from the game after briefly being down and is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

Carolina's offense would also be on the field for just three plays, as Newton was called for intentional grounding on first down before Josh Norman nearly had an interception on third down.

Washington's offense continued to struggle, though, as they would also experience a three-and-out.

Robert Kelley carried the ball twice while Pierre Garçon caught another pass, but the Redskins couldn't move the chains.

The Panthers would add to their lead following a seven-play, 65-yard drive that was capped by another Gano field goal conversion.

The Redskins would finally get some movement in the quarter, first completing a pass to DeSean Jackson (which was originally ruled an incompletion) for 17 yards before a 15-yard gainer by Pierre Garçon.

Garçon would then get another first down reception before Jamison Crowder made a big-time fourth down catch.

The Redskins would get into a down and distance situation after the reception, but were pushed back on a 15-yard penalty in which Jordan Reed was disqualified from the game.

Second Quarter: Redskins 9, Panthers 13Carolina would continue their fourth drive of the game into the second quarter, but Washington avoided going into a 17-3 hole, as Bashaud Breeland stopped Greg Olsen for a two-yard loss on third down before Graham Gano came out for a field goal.

The score is now 13-3.

Washington would have a quick three-and-out before Carolina drove into Redskins territory, but were pushed out of field goal range after Cam Newton was called for a 15-yard taunting penalty that placed the Panthers at the 41-yard line for a punt.

Starting the next drive at their own 11-yard line, the Redskins quickly got out of the shadow of their own end zone with completions to Pierre Garçon and Robert Kelley. Aided by a five-yard Panthers penalty and another Kelley reception, down to the 25-yard line.

Washington would be set up in a 1st-and-goal situation following a DeSean Jackson reception before Robert Kelley powered his way through a pile for his fifth rushing touchdown on the season.

The defense would then push the Panthers off the field in four plays, as they gave up a 12-yard reception on the first play of the drive before three straight stops, highlighted by a sack for Chris Baker.

Washington would experience a three-and-out of its own before Carolina got the ball back, but couldn't add any more points to the board.

First Quarter: Redskins 3, Panthers 10The Panthers were able to quickly march down the field for nearly 60 yards on their opening drive, but the Redskins clamped down deep in their own territory to prevent a potential touchdown.

On 3rd-and-6 from the 17-yard line, Cam Newton tried to complete a pass to Greg Olsen only for Bashaud Breeland to get a hand up and break up the attempt before Graham Gano recorded three points.

Linebacker Martrell Spaight got the start at the Mike linebacker spot while Donte Whitner Sr. and Duke Ihenacho were the starting safeties.

Washington's offense did not respond on its debut in the game, going three-and-out before a 45-yard Tress Way punt.

Kirk Cousins missed wide on both of his pass attempts to start the game.

The defense would respond, though, forcing a three-and-out of its own. On the drive, Ryan Kerrigan got a strong hit on Cam Newton while Chris Baker took down Jonathan Stewart for a four-yard loss on an attempted third down run.

Getting the ball back at their own 36-yard line, the Redskins were able to move the ball. With completions to Jamison Crowder, Pierre Garçon, DeSean Jackson and Robert Kelley, Washington eventually got to the 25-yard line but had to settle for a Dustin Hopkins field goal to knot the scoring at 3-3.

After possessing the ball for eight plays, Carolina would work the ball 84 yards down the field to get the first touchdown of the evening. On third down from the 30-yard line, Newton would throw a dart to Ted Ginn Jr. for a score.  One note on that play: Deshazor Everett checked in on defense for the first time in the game.

Cousins would come back to complete back-to-back passes to Vernon Davis – who now has 500 career receptions – before being intercepted by Kurt Coleman. He would return the interception 27 yards to the Redskins' 24 yard line.

Carolina would run one play before the end of the quarter.
