After a defensive struggle on Monday Night Football, the Redskins were back to their scoring ways on Sunday afternoon, piling up 31 points in a total team victory.
Redskins' quarterbacks combined for 17-for-28, 272 yards and two touchdowns. A strong rushing attack produced 172 yards on the ground, and won the time of possession margin by nearly five minutes.
The Redskins received the ball at their 10-yard line and marched 86 yards to the Ravens' 4-yard line, riding Alfred Morris who averaged 9.2 yards per carry on the opening drive.
At the 4-yard line, Robert Griffin III found receiver Joshua Morgan in the end zone for his first reception of the day:
After yielding a Ravens' touchdown just two-and-a-half minutes later, the Redskins were back in the driver's seat.
The Redskins tallied nine-of-22 first downs on the opening two drives, setting the tone for the game. The 186 first quarter yards was the most by any team in the NFL this season, and the most yards in the first quarter since Week 10 of the 1997 season.
Turning to the passing game, the Redskins moved the ball 92 yards on seven plays, getting the ball down to the 1-yard line after a gritty effort by receiver Pierre Garcon.
On 1st-and-goal from the 1-yard line, the Redskins turned to Morris, who trucked up the middle for his seventh touchdown of the season, followed by his trademark homerun swing:
The Redskins went three-and-out on the next possession, before fumbling deep in their own red zone midway through the second quarter.
After falling behind 21-14, the Redskins chipped away with two Kai Forbath field goals, setting up a situation for a last-minute drive to win the game. But the defense faltered, giving up a touchdown with 4:47 remaining in the game, as the Ravens took an eight point lead.
Looked for a touchdown and two, Griffin III started the drive, before injury to his right knee knocked him out of the game.
Enter fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins, who entered with one sensational touchdown to his name: a 77-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss in Week 5 against the Falcons.
Unlike the Falcons game, Cousins was determined to finish the job tonight, finding Garcon in the end zone across the field from where he stood:
