The Redskins have hired former tight end Don Warren to join the team's personnel staff as a pro scout, the team announced on Monday.
The Redskins also announced they have promoted Louis Riddick to Director of Pro Personnel and Scott Campbell to Director of College Scouting.
"We were very impressed with Donnie during his interview as well as his skills in evaluating players at all positions," said Vinny Cerrato, Vice President of Football Operations. "We look forward to having him re-join the organization. He also already has insight into what the definition of a true Redskin is, which will be beneficial to our football team."
Warren, named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins in 2002, had a stellar career with the Washington Redskins from 1979 to 1992. He played in 193 games with the Redskins, with 244 receptions for 2,536 yards and seven touchdowns.
Warren played in four Super Bowls under head coach Joe Gibbs (XVII, XVIII, XXII, XXVI), winning three. From a statistical standpoint, he had his best year as a pro in 1980 when he recorded a career-high 31 receptions. He was drafted by the Redskins in the fourth round of the 1979 NFL Draft, playing all 14 years of his career with Washington.
Warren was previously working as a football and baseball coach at Centreville High School in Virginia.
Riddick was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel after spending the last four seasons as a pro scout. In his expanded role, Riddick is responsible for the advance scouting of Redskins opponents during the regular season as well as the club's evaluation of all pro leagues including the rest of the NFL, the Canadian Football League, the Arena League and NFL Europe.
Riddick oversees all in-season and off-season free agent workouts and also plays a significant role in the team's preparation for the NFL free agency period. Riddick began his NFL career as a ninth-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 1991 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a seven-year playing career at safety, having also spent time with Atlanta, Cleveland and Oakland.
"Louis has done a tremendous job for us a pro scout and will continue to draw on his background as a player and his skills as an evaluator in his new position," Cerrato said.
Campbell returns as Director of College Scouting for the 2005 season. He originally joined the Redskins in 2001 in the same capacity, overseeing the area scouts and assisting with the Redskins draft operations before heading up the scouting of pro personnel for the past four seasons.
Campbell spent the 2000 season in Chicago as the Bears' director of pro scouting, after three seasons in Kansas City, serving as the southeast area scout (1997-99). He began his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons in 1987, serving as an assistant to his father, head coach Marion Campbell. In 1990, he joined Atlanta's personnel department full-time for a seven-season run as an area scout.
"Scott has been in scouting for 18 years and on the college side for 15 years, so it was a natural move for him to move to direct our college scouting," Cerrato said. "Both Louis and Scott were promoted because of their skills, work ethic and the job they have done in evaluating players here in the last several years."
