The Redskins Charitable Foundation, Commonwealth Orthopaedics, DePuy Mitek, Inc, a global leader in orthopaedic sports medicine, and Safe Kids Worldwide are teaming up to educate more than 120 Sterling Middle School students on injury prevention, physical fitness and concussion safety on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Redskins Play 60 Mini-Combine at Redskins Park.
Schedules permitting, Redskins players Brandon Banks, Dezmon Briscoe, Fred Davis, DeJon Gomes, Alfred Morris, Evan Royster and Josh Wilson, amongst others, will be in attendance to help teach students how to eat right and live a healthy lifestyle.
Redskins and Commonwealth Orthopaedics doctors, Dr. Christopher Annunziata and Dr. Andrew Parker, will kick off the event by welcoming sixth- and seventh-grade students to the Redskins training facility.
They will discuss the importance of warming up and stretching, in addition to different types of sports injuries – specifically sports overuse injuries.
During the Redskins Play 60 Mini-Combine, students will be able to participate in the following five stations – nutrition and hydration, concussions, strength and agility, stretching and an obstacle course.
Stations will be led by a mixture of Commonwealth physical therapists, doctors, Safe Kids staff and Redskins players.
"The Redskins Play 60 Mini-Combine will be a great opportunity for players, doctors and trainers to come together to provide students information that will improve their health and sports safety," said Annunziata, who serves as the Redskins head orthopedic physician.
After completing the combine, students will receive a free health and wellness bag full of items such as sunscreen, lip balm, first aid kits, NFL Play 60 eye black, an autographed Redskins photo and more.
This event is not open to the public.
