Former Redskin George Starke Co-Founder of Excel

The Redskins invited more than 80 students from The Excel Institute to watch the team's mini-camp practice on May 7.

The invitation was the result of former Redskins offensive lineman George Starke, co-founder of The Excel Institute, reconnecting with new general manager Bruce Allen.

"We are thrilled to be able to reward our students with this kind of event," Starke said. "They work very hard to get through our program and this type of opportunity is very special."

Added Redskins general manager Bruce Allen: "We are proud to work with a great alumnus in George Starke. He has a great vision for helping out these individuals with this life-changing program."

Along with watching practice, students snapped photos and received autographs from coaches and players, including head coach Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb.

The Excel Institute opened in 1998 to address the employment needs of unemployed individuals, youth and adults in at-risk situations, and employers in the automotive industry in the Washington, D.C. area.

Excel's programs train students for careers in the automotive service industry, and also offers High School Equivalency (GED), basic literacy training, life management, and job placement skills as part of a comprehensive workforce development program.
