For the first time in his career, Redskins kicker Dustin Hopkins has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after he converted on field goals against the Giants, including the game winner.

After hitting all five of his field goal attempts in Sunday's 29-27 victory for the Washington Redskins, kicker Dustin Hopkins has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the New York Giants.

This is the first time Hopkins has received the award in his career and the first member of the Redskins to receive the honor for special teams since kicker Kai Forbath in Week 8 of the 2014 season.

Hopkins converted from 25, 33, 37, 45 and 49 yards in the Redskins' two-point victory over the Giants. His make from 37 yards with less than two minutes left in the game ultimately turned out to be the game-winning kick.

His five field goal conversions set a career-high for kicks made in a single game as he became the first member of the Redskins to record five field goals in a game since Shaun Suisham on Nov. 4, 2007.

"That was the first time in the NFL I've had five attempts," Hopkins said after the game. "I had a couple five attempt games in college, but that's been awhile. It was a fun one just to get that under your belt. My grandparents were here, my parents were here, a lot of our close friends, my wife and I's close friends. My in-laws as well. To have everybody here at a game that was really special for me in particular, but the team as a whole is awesome, too."

Hopkins added that it was a "good feeling getting the first (victory) under your belt just cause it's a monkey hanging over your back."

"But to get the first one, hopefully get a rhythm working, go back home, be in front of a home crowd and hopefully get a  couple in a row."

The Florida State product has converted his last 15 field goal attempts in the regular season dating back to last season. It is the longest successful make streak of his career.

So far during the 2016 campaign, Hopkins is 11-for-11.

With Hopkins' selection this week, Redskins players have won 89 NFC Player of the Week awards since the NFL started awarding weekly honors in 1984.
