The Redskins hosted an "exploratory meeting" with free agent running back Brian Westbrook on Wednesday, general manager Bruce Allen said.

"We had a good meeting," Allen said. "We'll probably have some meetings down the road."

During the meeting, Westbrook talked about "some of his dreams and his thoughts on where his future lies," Allen said.

Allen spoke about the meeting with reporters after addressing 175 high school student-athletes at Springarn High School in Washington, D.C.

Westbrook, a Washington, D.C., native, is a 2-time Pro Bowl running back formerly with the Philadelphia Eagles. A third-round draft pick in 2002, he emerged as a dynamic threat as a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

In Philadelphia, Westbrook played alongside current Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb through the 2009 season.

Westbrook was released by the Eagles in February. He reportedly met with the St. Louis Rams in recent weeks as well.

Allen said he talked to McNabb about Westbrook. He also talked with Westbrook's high school coach, DeMatha's Bill McGregor, during the Springarn event.

Allen said he thought Westbrook would fit in well in the Redskins' locker room.

"Brian does have good character and we think he would fit in with a lot of the great character guys we have on the team," Allen said. "I talked [to the high school students] about London Fletcher and Donovan McNabb and the type of leadership we have on our team. Those are the type of players we want to add to our roster."

Allen declined to discuss Westbrook's concussion history.

Westbrook suffered a pair of concussions last season and he was sidelined the latter half of the regular season for the Eagles.
