After months of speculation, the Washington Redskins have named their starting quarterback: Case Keenum. Head coach Jay Gruden announced the decision after practice Sunday.

As the competition fueled between Keenum and fellow signal-callers Colt McCoy and Dwayne Haskins, Keenum showed comfortability and consistency within the Redskins offense. He'll now prepare for Week 1 against Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field -- the same place where, as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, he lost to the Eagles in the NFL Championship in 2018.

"Oh, I remember that feeling," Keenum said. "I'm an extreme competitor, it's in my DNA, and I'm looking forward to going back in there."

A journey not often taken by NFL quarterbacks, Keenum's tenure in Washington is his third destination in as many years.

However, he's been the anchor under center for each franchise. After recording a career-high 3,890 yards passing with the Denver Broncos last season, Keenum has used his brief time in Washington to his advantage.

While competing with Haskins and McCoy, Keenum received the opportunity to work with multiple offensive units during OTAs and training camp, allowing the veteran to build much-needed timing and chemistry with a diverse group of wideouts. His teammates have taken notice.

"I've been out there since training camp, and I've just seen progress from him since the beginning," tight end Vernon Davis said after practice Sunday. "He deserves it, he's a hard worker and I can't wait to get out there with him opening day."

A competitor by nature, Keenum now leads the Redskins into 2019 with a large chip on his shoulder. He's both "excited and ready to produce" for his newest franchise.
