The Washington Redskins are doing their part to aid in the relief and recovery process in the Bahamas, which was ravaged by Hurricane Dorian earlier this month.
On Thursday, team owner Dan Snyder sent a plane full of supplies to the Bahamas, marking the organization's latest effort to assist natural disaster victims. Representing the team was second-year corner Adonis Alexander, who personally delivered food items and other goods to Nassau, the country's capital.
Alexander's father is from the Bahamas, and he has a lot of family in the city of Freeport, which makes helping the citizens there even more special.
"This is the only team I've seen doing it," Alexander said. "So, it's just a blessing. I feel like it's a great look for the organization; they're taking care of people in need, not just us."
This is not the first time the Redskins have provided hurricane relief for those in need.
Back in 2016, Snyder and his wife, Tanya Snyder, flew down to the Bahamas with a plane full of food items and other goods to help rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Matthew. Snyder then provided reinforcements to Haiti, another country devastated by the same hurricane. After talking with Snyder, former Redskins Pierre Garçon and Ricky Jean Francois, both of Haitian descent, flew to the island nation to deliver medical supplies to a hospital in Port Au Prince.
People affected by severe weather and other disasters need help now. The current death toll from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas is at 50 and growing, while 1,300 others are still missing and almost 15,000 people are in need of food and shelter. Preliminary damage was estimated to be more than $7 billion.
