The Washington Redskins announced Dec. 27 they have placed cornerback Shawn Springs on injured reserve and waived cornerback Mike Rumph, while signing defensive backs John Eubanks and Leigh Torrence to the active roster.
Springs suffered a fractured scapula in his right shoulder last week in St. Louis. He had 44 total tackles this season, along with one interception and seven passes defensed.
Eubanks, 5-10, 173 pounds, has spent the season on the Redskins practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississippi in May. He started all 12 games his senior season at Southern Mississippi, recording 31 tackles and four interceptions.
Torrence, 6-0, 183 pounds, is in his second NFL season out of Stanford. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2005 by Green Bay, he was waived by the Packers and signed with Atlanta prior to the start of the regular season. He saw action in 10 games in 2005 with the Falcons, playing on special teams and in the secondary. He was waived by the Falcons prior to the start of the 2006 season.
In addition, the Redskins have signed offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong and wide receiver Ryan Hoag to the practice squad.
