Quinton Dunbar entered the NFL as an undrafted wide receiver in 2015. Now, he's a formidable cornerback having the best season of his professional career.
Pro Football Focus named Dunbar to its 2019 Midseason NFL All-Pro Team on Tuesday with a grade of 91.3, which is the highest among defensive backs. The group also includes Marcus Peters (Ravens), Marcus Williams (Saints), Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson ( both with the Broncos).
Dunbar missed Week 2 and 3 with a knee injury, but he's been exceptional in the six games he's played this season. He's tied for third in the NFL with three interceptions to go along with five passes defended and 26 combined tackles. Opponents have gained just 204 total yards with him in coverage.
Dunbar's best performances to date came in Week 4 and 5 against the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins, respectively. He corralled all three of his turnovers in these games, which doubled as the two highest-graded contests of his career, according to PFF.
Dunbar, a fifth-year veteran out of Florida, has made 51 appearances and 18 starts for the Redskins, recording 111 tackles, 31 pass breakups and eight interceptions. He began his career on the practice squad, then joined the active roster as the fifth cornerback and moved his way up to the No. 3 corner after his rookie campaign. He's served as the starter alongside Josh Norman since 2018.
And while Dunbar has never made the Pro Bowl, that could change should Dunbar replicate his performance from the first half of 2019.
