The Redskins have re-signed veteran tight end Brian Kozlowski to the 53-man roster, the team announced on Friday.

To make room for Kozlowski, the Redskins released wide receiver Jimmy Farris.

It's the second year in a row that the Redskins have brought in Kozlowski late in the season.

In November 2006, the team signed Kozlowski for the final seven weeks of the season and he played in two games, catching one pass.

Kozlowski, 6-3 and 265 pounds, has played 13 seasons in the NFL as a tight end and special teams contributor.

He played for the Redskins in each of the past three seasons and should be familiar with the offense should he be needed in this Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kozlowski can also play H-back and fullback, so he could step in for Mike Sellers if necessary.

In 2005, Kozlowski appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins, catching two passes for 26 yards and posting a special teams tackle.

He also played with the Redskins in 2004, appearing in 11 games with one start and contributing three catches for 29 yards.

Kozlowski played the first three years of his career with the New York Giants. He then played seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

During his career, he has started 29 games and appeared in 178. He has posted 84 catches for 973 yards and eight touchdowns. He had his most productive season with the Falcons in 2001 when he had 15 catches for 270 yards and one touchdown.

Kozlowski played his college ball at the University of Connecticut.
