The Washington Redskins announced today they have re-signed linebacker Antonio Pierce. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Pierce is an experienced, hard-working player that has proven he can step up when called upon. He is also a stand-out special teams contributor.

Pierce, 6-1 and 240 pounds, recently completed his third season with the Redskins. He has started 10 games and has appeared in 40 during his time in Washington, recording 86 tackles (65 solo), one sack, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. He has also been a consistent special teamer, logging 30 special teams tackles during his career.

Last season Pierce appeared in all 16 games, mostly as a reserve linebacker and special teams contributor. He had nine tackles (six solo) and finished third on the team in special teams stops with 18.

Pierce originally signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He impressed coaches during training camp and made the team, going on to start eight games. As a rookie, he posted 64 tackles (48 solo) and added an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. In 2002, Pierce started two games and saw action in eight, recording 13 tackles (11 solo).

As a standout linebacker at the University of Arizona, Pierce played in all 11 games as a senior, recording 77 tackles (10 for loss), three sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and one blocked kick.
