Redskins Re-sign LB Wallace, DE Smith

The Washington Redskins announced June 9 they have re-signed defensive end Dorian Smith and linebacker Rian Wallace. In addition, the Redskins have released cornerback Eddie Jackson and linebacker Bryan Wilson.

Smith (6-3, 260), a two-year standout at Oregon State, totaled 72 career tackles (49 solo), 22 tackles for a loss, 15 sacks and two forced fumbles. His best season came as a senior when he earned All-Pac 10 first-team honors after he had 42 tackles (30 solo), 10.5 tackles for a loss, six sacks and one forced fumble. Prior to enrolling at Oregon State, he was a two-time second-team All-American at the College of the Desert.

Smith originally joined the Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2008 before being released on May 27, 2008. Smith will wear jersey No. 74.

Wallace (6-3, 243), originally a fifth-round pick (166th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, has appeared in 16 career games. He played in 12 regular-season games in 2006 for the Super Bowl champion Steelers. He had one tackle and posted his first career interception, which he returned for a 30-yard touchdown vs. Kansas City (10/15/06).

Wallace was out of football for the 2007 season and signed with Washington on January 9, 2008. He spent the offseason and mini-camp with the Redskins before being released on June 2, 2008. Wallace will wear jersey No. 55.

Wallace played his college ball at Temple where he appeared in 34 career games with 29 starts. He tallied 325 career tackles (192 solo), two sacks, 31.5 tackles for a loss, five fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. Wallace earned All-Big East honors as a sophomore and junior.

Jackson originally signed with Washington on January 8, 2008, while Wilson signed with the Redskins on April 30, 2008.
