The Redskins have re-signed third-year punter Derrick Frost, the team announced on Monday.

Frost entered the 2007 offseason as a restricted free agent, but he opted to re-sign with the Redskins this week rather than go to another team.

Frost has battled inconsistency in two seasons as the Redskins' punter, but coaches have stuck with him, continuing to develop his skills.

Frost appears to have stabilized his hold on the punting job with a series of strong games late last season.

Frost finished the 2006 campaign ranked 21st in the NFL in punting average. He logged a 42.9-yard average on 81 punts, with 27 placed inside the 20-yard line.

Frost's best game was in the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints, a 16-10 win for the Redskins. In the Superdome, Frost had five punts for a 47.8-yard average, including a long of 54, and three kicks inside the Saints' 20.

For his career, Frost has tallied 242 punts for 9,949 yards, a 41.1 average, a long of 60 and 74 punts inside the 20.

At this point of the offseason, Frost remains the only punter on the Redskins' roster.

Frost also has experience as a kickoff specialist, a role he served part of last season. He also was the Redskins' holder on field goal attempts.
