On Friday, April 17th, Redskins Salute partnered with Blue Star Families to kick off an awareness social media campaign in honor of Month of the Military Child.
April is designated as Month of the Military Child; a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experience of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas. It's a campaign designed bu Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger in 1986, to which the Department of Defense has honored his initiative for over 34 years.
The campaign featured a new photo with an embroidered football with the Redskins Salute logo and Blue Star Families logo and a surprising statistic about the challenges and adversities that military children struggle with every day. The stats were taken from the renowned 2020 Blue Star Families Survey that measures challenges and concerns military communities face all over the world.
Our goal for the campaign was to not raise awareness of the struggles and adversities that military children face, but also give our fans and audience an opportunity to support programs run by Blue Star Families that address those challenges and severally impact the quality of life, mental wellness, physical fitness, and relationship with civilian communities – of military families all over the world.
We'd like to thank Blue Star Families for working with us on these campaigns, and USAA for helping us kick things off on their #PurpleUp and #HonorThroughAction initiatives on Friday, April 17th!
