The Washington Redskins closed out the fifth round Saturday by selecting linebacker Cole Holcomb out of North Carolina.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Holcomb, taken 173rd overall, earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior last season, totaling 105 tackles and forcing four fumbles. Holcomb was a three-year starter with the Tar Heels and led the team in tackles in each of those seasons.

Holcomb will join a Redskins' inside linebacker corps that includes veteran Mason Foster, 2017 first-round pick Reuben Foster, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaun Dion Hamilton, who the organization drafted in the sixth round a year ago. The franchise released linebacker Zach Brown in March.
Holcomb becomes the second defensive player in the Redskins' 2019 draft class. On Thursday night, the Redskins traded up to acquire Mississippi edge player Montez Sweat with the 26th-overall selection.
