The Washington Redskins announced April 26 that they have selected Michigan State wide receiver Devin Thomas in the second-round (34th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft.

This selection represents the Redskins first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft after a trade involving the Atlanta Falcons.

The Redskins acquired a pair of second-round selections (34th and 48th overall) and a fourth-round selection (103rd overall) from the Falcons for their first-round selection (21st overall), third-round selection (84th verall) and fifth-round selection (154th overall).

Thomas (6-1, 218 pounds) declared for the NFL Draft after his junior campaign where he set a school record with 79 receptions and ranked second in the Big Ten Conference with 1,260 receiving yards. Thomas started all 13 games for the Spartans in 2007 and tallied eight touchdown receptions.

Additionally, he ranked eleventh in the nation with a 29.1-yard kickoff return average. He finished sixth in the NCAA ranks with an average of 199.2 all-purpose yards per game, marking the second best total in Big Ten history.

Thomas was a third-team All-American selection by The NFL Draft Report, as well as All-Big Ten Conference second-team.

He enrolled at Michigan State in January 2006 after one season at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College. During his first season as a Spartan, Thomas appeared in 10 games and recorded six receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown.

While at Coffeyville Community College, Thomas helped the Red Ravens to a 9-3 record in 2005 and a No. 9 ranking in the final NJCAA poll. He led the team in receptions with 33 for 674 yards (20.4 average) and five touchdowns as a red-shirt freshman.

Thomas attended Canton (Mich.) High School as a junior and senior, and Huron (Ann Arbor, Mich.) High School as a freshman and sophomore.

As a senior at Canton High School, he was a second-team All-Metro choice by The Detroit News and was also named to The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press All-West teams.
