The Redskins have signed linebacker Brandon Barnes to the active 53-man roster, the team announced.
To make room for Barnes, the Redskins released linebacker Michael Brown.
Barnes, 6-2 and 247 pounds, was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Baltimore Ravens last April after a standout career at Missouri. He was released when the Ravens pared down their roster at the end of training camp.
At Missouri, Barnes started 17 of 37 games, including all 12 in 2003, and he posted 109 tackles (second on squad) as a senior. He also added 10 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, one pass defense and six quarterback hurries.
The Redskins have also released linebacker Steve Josue from the practice squad and replaced him with linebacker Billy Strother.
Last April, the Redskins signed Strother as an undrafted free agent but released him as part of preseason roster cuts.
