The Redskins have signed free agent linebacker Khary Campbell, the team announced on Monday.

Campbell, who participated in the Redskins' mini-camp last week on a tryout basis, is expected to provide additional depth at linebacker and will add both youth and experience to the defense and special teams.

The Redskins also announced that they have released Reggie McGrew, the veteran defensive tackle who signed with the team in January.

Campbell, 6-1 and 230 pounds, comes to Washington after spending his first two NFL seasons with the New York Jets as a reserve linebacker and special teams player. He has played in 13 career games and has recorded nine career tackles at linebacker.

Last season, Campbell appeared in four games before being released in Week 5. In 2002, his rookie year, he played in nine games for the Jets, making six tackles (one solo). He also starred on special teams, recording 17 tackles (11 solo) and one forced fumble.

Campbell entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2002. He joined the Jets from the Cowboys' practice squad in September 2002.

At Bowling Green, Campbell finished his collegiate career with 299 tackles, two interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He led the defense in tackles in both his junior and senior seasons.
