The Washington Redskins today addressed injuries to the cornerback position by signing veteran Bryan McCann and rookie DreQuan Hoskey.*
After seeing Bashaud Breeland (knee) and David Amerson (shoulder) go down with injuries in recent days, the Washington Redskins on Wednesday announced two moves to address the depth at the cornerback position.
The Washington Redskins on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, announced the signings of cornerbacks Bryan McCann and DreQuan Hoskey.
The team signed of veteran Bryan McCann and rookie DreQuan Hoskey, both cornerbacks, to add immediate help for coordinator Joe Barry's defense.
It also announced Wednesday it has waived-injured cornerback Tevin Mitchel and waived safety Phillip Thomas
McCann has played played a total of 35 games from 2010 to 2013 with the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.
He has a combined 28 tackles with one sack, three passes defensed, and one interception, which he returned 101 yards for a touchdown.
McCann has also served as a kick and punt returner in his NFL career. He has 39 career kickoff returns for 947 yards (24.3 yards per return) with a long of 91 yards, and has 13 punt returns for 207 yards (15.9 yards per return) with one return touchdown -- a 97-yard scamper with the Cowboys in 2010.
McCann, who was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week that week, was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week the game prior after regiestering his 101-yard interception return for a touchdown against the New York Giants.
Hoskey, meanwhile, participated in the Redskins' rookie minicamp in May after going undrafted in Virginia. He played in 49 games with the Cavaliers from 2011 to 2014, registering 104 tackles (for for a loss) with one forced fumble, 16 passes defensed and one interception.
Hoskey, a Richmond, Va., native, also participated in track and field at Virginia.
Breeland, who turned in a spectacular rookie season in 2014, sprained his MCL in Friday's practice and is expected back no sooner than Week 2 of the regular season. Amerson injured his shoulder during Sunday's practice, but is not expected to miss significant practice time.
