As the Redskins mourn the death of Sean Taylor, the business of football must go on.

The Redskins have re-signed wide receiver Jimmy Farris and promoted linebacker Matt Sinclair from the practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday.

Offensive lineman Kevin Sampson was released from the roster.

The Redskins had an available roster spot open due to Taylor's passing this week.

With Sinclair on the active roster, the Redskins filled his practice squad with wide receiver Burl Toler.

Farris signed with the Redskins midseason and played in the Week 10 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He was released two days after that game.

Farris, 6-0 and 196 pounds, is in his fourth season out of Montana. He played in four games for Washington in 2005, including the team's divisional playoff game at Seattle on Jan. 14, 2006.

Farris has also had NFL stints with San Francisco, New England, Atlanta and Jacksonville. In his career, Farris has played in 34 NFL games, with seven receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Sinclair, 6-2 and 245 pounds, first joined the Redskins on June 27, 2007 and spent the first 12 weeks of this season on the practice squad.

The first-year player began his career with the Baltimore Ravens in April 2005 as a rookie free agent. He was released by the Ravens prior to the 2005 season. He later signed with the Miami Dolphins in January 2006.

Sinclair attended the University of Illinois where he played in 45 games recording 278 tackles.

Toler, a 6-2, 185-pound first-year player out of California, impressed the Redskins in preseason, catching three passes for 26 yards. He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Oakland Raiders in 2006, but was later released.
