With injuries to Su'a Cravens and Will Compton, the Redskins on Tuesday added to their linebacking corps by signing 26-year-old Nick Moody.
The Washington Redskins announced on Tuesday that they have signed fourth-year linebacker Nick Moody to the 53-man roster.
In a corresponding move, the team placed defensive end Anthony Lanier on Injured Reserve. Also, defensive lineman A.J. Francis and defensive back Shak Randolph were signed to the practice squad while defensive lineman Trevon Coley and defensive back Lee Hightower were released from the practice squad.
Moody, 26, has appeared in 23 games during his NFL career with two starts, collecting 25 tackles.
He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick for the San Francisco 49ers in 2013, appearing in four games during his rookie season.
The Florida State made his NFL debut on Sept. 8, 2013, in a 34-28 49ers victory over the Green Bay Packers but broke his hand in the contest. Moody would be placed on Injured Reserve before being activated for a Week 12 matchup with the Redskins at FedExField. He recorded a pair of tackles, his first in the NFL.
During the 2014 season, Moody appeared in all 16 regular season games, recording 21 tackles including a career-high seven tackles against the San Diego Chargers in his first career start.
Moody would be waived by the 49ers in September 2015 before the Seattle Seahawks signed him to the practice squad. He would be promoted to the active roster on Oct. 14 and appeared in two games before being placed on Injured Reserve after suffering a hamstring injury.
Moody joins a linebackers group that is currently dealing with two injured players, as Will Compton (PCL sprain) and Su'a Cravens (elbow sprain) are week-to-week after being removed from Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Lanier's rookie season, meanwhile, ends after four games. In his regular season debut against the Cincinatti Bengals in Week 8, the Alabama A&M product recorded a timely fumble recovery on a ball that defensive end Chris Baker forced out of Andy Dalton's possession.
