The Redskins have signed free agent kicker Justin Medlock to a futures contract, the team announced on Friday.

Medlock joins Graham Gano as place kickers on the Redskins' roster.

Medlock, 26, spent the 2009 season with the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts.

He connected on 40-of-46 field goal attempts (87.0 percent), with a long of 52 yards, and made all 22 of his extra point attempts last season.

Medlock tied a single-game team record with seven field goals against the BC Lions on Aug. 14, 2009, and was just one short of the league record of eight field goals in a single game.

Medlock, 5-11 and 201 pounds, originally entered the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs as a fifth-round selection (160th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.

He handled the kicking duties in the 2007 regular season opener for the Chiefs, connecting on 1-of-2 field goal attempts against the Houston Texans. He was subsequently released by Kansas City three days later.

Medlock signed with the St. Louis Rams in February 2008 and was with the team through training camp. He was released as part of a roster cutdown on Aug. 27, 2008.

Medlock played college football at UCLA. He earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in three consecutive seasons (2004-06) and was also named to the Associated Press All-America first team as a senior.

A four-year letterman at UCLA, Medlock made 70-of-88 field goals (80.0 percent) and connected on 147-of-148 extra point attempts. The two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist (2004, 2006) established a school record with six field goals of 50 or more yards.
