The Redskins have completed the signing of punter Sam Paulescu, the team announced on Friday.
To make room for Paulescu on the roster, the Redskins released running back Quinton Ganther.
Paulescu will punt for the Redskins in this Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. Hunter Smith, the Redskins' regular punter, continues to be slowed by a groin injury.
The 25-year-old Paulescu has a career 41.7-yard average on 58 punts with the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos.
In 2008, he averaged 41.8-yards per punt and a 35.2 net average with the Cowboys. He also punted in one game with the Broncos in 2007.
Paulescu entered the NFL in 2007 as an undrafted rookie with the Cowboys.
The 6-0, 190-pound Paulescu attended Oregon State in his final two college seasons after transferring from Fullerton College. He earned All Pac-10 first team honors in 2005, becoming the first punter in school history to accomplish that feat.
Paulescu is a native of Los Angeles.
Ganther signed with the Redskins on Oct. 20 and was inactive for one game.
