The Redskins have signed running back Kenny Hilliard, a 2015 seventh-round pick for the Texans that has spent most of the past two seasons on Houston's practice squad.

The Washington Redskins on Monday announced the signing of free agent running back Kenny Hilliard.

In a corresponding move, the team waived running back Keith Marshall, designated as injured.

Hilliard, 25, entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick for the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The 5-foot-11, 226 pounder has never recorded regular season action, but spent the entire 2015 season and Weeks 11-17 of the 2016 season on Houston's practice squad.

In the Texans' 2016 preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys, Hilliard carried the ball 29 times for 86 yards.

Hilliard played collegiately for LSU, appearing in 48 games with seven starts in his time with the Tigers. He rushed for 1,547 yards and 27 touchdowns, tied for eighth-most in school history.

Additionally, he tallied four 100-yard games during his time at LSU.

Marshall, meanwhile, suffered a knee injury during Saturday's practice session at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va.

The 2016 seventh-round pick missed his entire rookie season with an elbow injury suffered in the preseason.

Marshall – who recorded the fasted 40-yard dash time at the 2016 NFL Combine – was experiencing a strong early training camp showing prior to his injury, as Redskins head coach Jay Gruden noted that people were "sleeping on him a little bit."

In four seasons with the University of Georgia, Marshall appeared in 33 games and recorded 1,379 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns along with 24 receptions for 225 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
