Redskins Sign Seven to Practice Squad

The Redskins named seven players to their practice squad on Sunday, the team has announced.

  • Nehemiah Broughton, FB
  • Devin Clark, OL
  • Andrew Crummey, OL
  • Horace Gant, WR
  • Curtis Gatewood, LB
  • Matterral Richardson, CB
  • Byron Westbrook, CB

The Redskins still have one more spot to fill on the team's practice squad.

Nehemiah Broughton is in his fourth season with the Redskins. He was a 2005 seventh-round draft pick by the club. He had four carries for 16 yards and one catch for three yards in preseason. He essentially backs up Mike Sellers at fullback.

Devin Clark, an undrafted rookie out of New Mexcio, showed enough promise at offensive tackle in preseason to warrant a practice squad position.

Andrew Crummey, an undrafted rookie out of Maryland, impressed in preseason as an interior offensive lineman.

Horace Gant essentially becomes the sixth wide receiver. He was an undrafted rookie out of St. Olaf, where he tutored under current Redskins assistant coach Chris Meidt. He caught two passes for 26 yards in preseason play.

Curtis Gatewood saw extensive action in preseason at weak-side linebacker. He started the preseason finale on Aug. 30 and recorded four tackles.

Matteral Richardson made his mark in preseason when he intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown in the 30-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts. He is an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas.

Byron Westbrook, the brother of Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, returns for a second season on the Redskins' practice squad.
