Redskins Sign So'oto, Shuffle Practice Squad

The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed linebacker Vic So'oto (so-OH-toe) to their active roster from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad and free agent guard Pat Boyle to the team's practice squad.

In addition, the team released linebacker Kourtnei Brown from their practice squad.

So'oto (6-3, 263) was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as a college free agent out of Brigham Young on July 28, 2011.

He was inactive for Weeks 1-3 with Green Bay before making his NFL debut in Week 4. He appeared in seven games for the Packers in 2011, totaling seven tackles (five solo), one sack and adding three tackles on special teams.

So'oto was released by the Packers on Sept. 10, 2012, before signing with the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 25.

He was released by the Raiders on Nov. 6, 2012, and re-signed with the Packers on Nov. 12. He was released from the Packers' active roster on Dec. 11, before being re-signed to the team's practice squad two days later.

So'oto, 25, attended Brigham Young, where he appeared in 48 games with 14 starts during his career, garnering first-team All Mountain West Conference honors as a senior.

He saw action in 24 games as a tight end, making 12 catches for 124 yards (10.3 avg.). He played his final two years as a defensive end, totaling 55 tackles, including 15.5 for loss, six sacks and an interception.

So'oto was born on Aug. 19, 1987. He attended Carlsbad (Calif.) H.S., where he earned first-team All-San Diego honors by the San Diego Union-Tribune following his senior season in 2004.

Boyle (6-5, 301) originally signed with the Detroit Lions as a college free agent out of Temple on May 10, 2012.

He was released by the Lions on Aug. 31, before being added to their practice squad on Oct. 16. He was released from the Lions' practice squad on Nov. 16.

Boyle, 22, attended Temple, where he appeared in 42 games with 23 starts and garnered 2011 first-team All-MAC honors as a senior.

Boyle was born on May 30, 1990, and attended Calvert Hall H.S. in Towson, Md. He garnered 2007 All-MIAA Conference honors, named to the Maryland Varsity Dream Team and was selected as an All-Star by the Baltimore Touchdown Club.

Brown (6-6, 255) signed with the team's practiced squad on Dec. 5, 2012.
