The Redskins have signed tight end Jake Nordin, the team announced on July 30.
Nordin, 6-3, 255 pounds, is a rookie free agent from Northern Illinois.
Orginally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 7 of this year by New England, he was later released by the Patriots on July 19.
A three-year letter winner at Northern Illinois, he caught at least one pass in 21 consecutive games played from 2004-06. He suffered a fractured right leg last year that ended his senior season after just five games.
A critical component of the Huskies offense, Nordin was the team's primary blocking back and finished his collegiate career with 54 catches for 547 yards.
In addition, the Redskins have released kicker Tyler Frederickson.
