The Redskins announce Oct. 16 that they have signed veteran defensive back Troy Vincent to the active roster.

To make room on the roster for Vincent, the Redskins also announce today that safety Curry Burns has been released.

Vincent, 6-1 and 200 pounds, is in his 15th NFL season out of Wisconsin. He spent the previous two NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he played under current Redskins secondary-cornerbacks coach Jerry Gray, who had been the Bills defensive coordinator at the time.

Vincent was placed on injured reserve by the Bills after Week 1 with a hamstring injury. He was released by the Bills on Oct. 12.

Vincent started all 16 games for the Bills in 2005 at free safety and posted a career-high 102 tackles and tied for the team lead in interceptions with four.

Before joining the Bills, Vincent spent eight seasons with Philadelphia and four with Miami, where he began his career when the Dolphins made him the 7th overall pick in the 1992 draft.

Overall, he has played in 198 career games, with 196 starts and his 47 career interceptions is fifth most among active players.

Vincent earned Pro Bowl honors in five consecutive seasons, the latest of which came following his 2003 campaign with the Eagles.

Well respected both on and off the field, Vincent serves as President of the NFL Players' Association and was voted by fellow NFL Players the 2005 Athletes in Action Bart Starr Award for exemplifying outstanding character and leadership on the field and in the community.

During his career, he has also been awarded the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award (2002) and Byron "Whizzer" White Award by the NFLPA (2003).
