The Washington Redskins are taking on the Houston Texans at FedExField for their second AFC South opponent of the year. Check out a running list of the highlights from the game.

Trailing 10-0 early on, the Redskins offense was in desperate need of a sustained drive and some points. On the third possession of the game, the offense delivered. Quarterback Alex Smith and tight end Jordan Reed got things started, connecting for a 24-yard gain.

The next big gain came on a pass and catch between Smith and receiver Trey Quinn. Quinn, playing in his first game since Week 1, picked up a first down on what was the first reception of his career, and added an emphatic celebration.

Washington marched down the field and entered the red zone to begin the second quarter. From there, running back Adrian Peterson scampered into the end zone for a three-yard score to make it 10-7. The touchdown also moved Peterson into a tie for sixth place on the all-time rushing touchdown list with John Riggins.

Following the score, it was the defense's turn to make a play. First came a sack by Ryan Kerrigan to push the Texans back into a third-and-long situation.

Next, came an interception by linebacker Mason Foster. Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson's pass was tipped by linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons, and landed in the hands of Foster for the Redskins' first takeaway of the contest.

The Redskins came close to erasing the deficit, but a a 101-yard pick-six by the Texans gave Houston a 17-7 lead heading into halftime.

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Texans offense began make its way down the field, looking to expand the lead. Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had different plans, as he stripped the ball away from receiver DeAndre Hopkins, allowing Mason Foster to recover the fumble.

Continuing the theme of clutch turnovers, linebacker Preston Smith created the Redskins' third of the day by tipping Deshaun Watson's pass up in the air and coming down with it himself for the interception. The play set the Redskins offense up in the red zone.

Moments later, quarterback Colt McCoy, in for the injured Alex Smith, found Jordan Reed in the corner of the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown. The score cut the Texans' lead to 17-14.

After McCoy helped lead the Redskins down the field with some impressive throws and run, Peterson found pay-dirt for the second time on the afternoon, rushing for a seven-yard score. The touchdown gave Washington and 21-20 lead, and put Peterson alone in fifth place on the all-time rushing touchdowns list.

The Texans held a 23-21 lead with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, but a missed field goal gave the Redskins one last shot. McCoy quickly led the offense close to field goal range, giving Dustin Hopkins a chance to attempt a 63-yard field goal. However, the attempt fell short, and the Redskins suffered a 23-21 loss.
