The Redskins released cornerback Ralph Brown on Tuesday, paring the roster down to 76 players. Adding into the equation the 11 roster exemptions due to NFL Europe, the team has reached the NFL mandate of 65 players by Aug. 31.
Brown joined the Redskins last March after playing for the New York Giants the previous four seasons. He primarily played the role of nickel cornerback with the Giants and was competing for a similar role in Washington.
The Redskins now have seven cornerbacks on the roster: expected starters Fred Smoot and Shawn Springs, Walt Harris, Ade Jimoh, Rashad Bauman and rookies Rufus Brown and Garnell Wilds.
All NFL clubs must pare down their rosters to 53 by 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 5. Thereafter, teams may sign a practice squad of eight players on Sept. 6 after 12 pm ET.
