The Washington Redskins are bringing in a veteran center to complement a young offensive line, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team is signing free agent John Sullivan.

Sullivan, 31, has started 93 games during his career along with 109 regular season appearances, all coming with the Minnesota Vikings from 2008-14. A sixth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Sullivan made his NFL debut on Sept. 8, 2008, against the Green Bay Packers.

Sullivan's first NFL start came in the 2009 regular season opener when the Vikings defeated the Cleveland Browns 34-20.

The 6-foot-4, 310 pounder would start all but three games over the next six seasons. While he was expected to be the team's starting center once again for the 2015 season, Sullivan missed the entire year with a back injury.

He remained with Minnesota this offseason before being released in the team's cutdown to 53 players.

During his time with the Vikings, Sullivan was part of an offensive line that helped pave the way for four different Pro Bowl seasons when the center was healthy.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said on Monday that Kory Lichtensteiger remains week-to-week with a calf injury that was suffered on the first play of the third quarter of Washington's 29-27 victory over the New York Giants.

Spencer Long filled in for Lichtensteiger, taking his first reps at center during his NFL career.
