London Fletcher had accomplished a lot as an NFL linebacker by the time the Washington Redskins signed him on March 2, 2007.
Undrafted in 1998, Fletcher played his first four seasons with the St. Louis Rams and his next five with the Buffalo Bills. And aside from a quiet rookie campaign, he was consistently productive.
From 1999-06, he averaged about 133 total tackles (94 solo) to go along with 27.5 sacks, 11 interceptions and 10 forced fumbles. He also won Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 as a member of the Rams.
But once Fletcher signed a five-year, $25 million contract with Washington, he took his game to an even higher level.
He made four straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2009-12 and helped lead the Redskins to the playoffs in 2007 and 2012.
His best seasons came in 2011 and 2012, both of which ended with him making second-team All-Pro. In 2011, he set career highs in total tackles (166) and assisted tackles (70) while forcing three fumbles and making two interceptions. A year later, he amassed 139 more tackles and recorded a career-high five interceptions.
Fletcher retired following the 2013 campaign. He played 256 consecutive games to finish his career and started in 215 straight, which is still the NFL all-time record for consecutive starts at the linebacker position.
The Redskins recognized Fletcher's illustrious career during the 2019 season when he was inducted into the Redskins Ring of Fame. He was the fifth linebacker inducted, joining Sam Huff (1964-67,1969), Chris Hanburger (1965-78), Monte Coleman (1979-94) and Ken Harvey (1994-98).
