Entering a 2014 Week 8 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, not many gave the Redskins a shot to win the game. The Cowboys were 6-1 and fielded a dominant team, while Washington held a record of just 2-5. As if the odds were not already stacked against them, injuries led to the Redskins starting Colt McCoy, who entered the season as the team's third-string quarterback.
McCoy had not started a game since the 2011 season. Considering all the circumstances, it should have been an easy win for the Cowboys.
But, it was anything but that.
The Redskins hung close with the Cowboys throughout the contest. Behind rushing touchdowns from McCoy and running back Alfred Morris and two field goals, regulation ended with Dallas and Washington tied a 17.
In overtime , a 16-yard pass to tight end Jordan Reed set the Redskins up with an opportunity to win the game on a field goal. Kicker Kai Forbath delivered, sending the ball through the uprights and completing the miraculous upset against a division rival. McCoy finished the game with 299 yards passing, and one excited hug from his head coach Jay Gruden.
In a season where the Redskins would finish 4-12, the win on national television was a bright spot, as the team would go on to win just one of its final eight games.
On Thursday, Washington will once again head to Dallas for a nationally televised game, and once again Colt McCoy will be the starter. Entering as underdogs, the Redskins will be hoping to perform the sequel to the Monday Night Miracle.
