The Redskins are in evaluation mode heading into the team's season finale, but the team has no plans to give backup quarterback John Beck any further playing time.

Rex Grossman is expected to start Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles -- and finish it.

Head coach Mike Shanahan said the only way Beck would play on Sunday would be if Grossman gets hurt.

"We play to win," Shanahan said. "We'll play the best players. I've said that that from day one. It doesn't matter what the record is, we're playing to win.

"If a young guy gets in, it's because the player that was a starter either goes down or is playing at a very high level and we want to see him compete."

The question was brought up to determine if Shanahan had any intention to further evaluate Beck's on-field play heading into the offseason.

Beck made his Redskins debut in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles after Grossman had thrown four interceptions in a 20-13 loss.

Beck started the next three games, replacing Grossman as the Redskins' starter.

The Redskins struggled offensively behind Beck, losing all three contests. Beck completed 80-of-132 passes for 858 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

He was sacked 16 times, including a club record 10 times in a 23-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 8.

Grossman reclaimed the starting job in Week 10.

Asked if the team had seen enough of Beck for a complete evaluation, Shanahan replied: "We had a couple games in there, so it's all part of the process. It's just not games, it's practice every day, preparation and all those type of things."
