Hey Redskins Nation,
WRC Special here to share a little piece of my journey as a rookie with you!
Wow where did the season go! Time flies when you're having fun, or should I say living out your dream! It seems like it was just yesterday when I made my rookie debut as a WRC….Nervous, anxious but ready to take on whatever was going to be thrown my way. I grew up dancing all over the DMV and am proud to say that I have danced at every historical theatre in Washington, DC. However, there's nothing like cheering for the First Ladies of Football and being a part of such an elite, legacy of talented, intelligent women whom all come from different backgrounds yet share one passion.
At the age of 9 when I attended my very first Washington Redskins game I knew that I HAD to be a WRC! I'll never forget that moment, it was Washington vs. Buffalo and during that time we were called the Redskinettes. I had discovered the cheerleaders by wandering off from my family and I ended up caught between the two lines of cheerleaders as they walked through the stadium. I witnessed poised women in Sparkly uniforms and beautiful hair. Not to mention their killer dance moves during the game!
From then on, I was hooked! I started to constantly see the cheerleaders in my community doing amazing things such as honoring our troops, the annual turkey drive as well as coming to my elementary school's field day. I couldn't wait to become of age to audition. So I did just that! I didn't make the team on my 1st try or my 2nd or my 3rd! However, each time I auditioned was a learning experience and I took something from each experience. Last year I came back stronger than ever and I made the 2018-2019 cheerleader roster! It was definitely one of my greatest accomplishments to date, to achieve my childhood dream.
Although I'm a rookie this season I am no stranger to Fedex field. I've had the honor to represent the Washington Redskins Cheerleader organization as a 2015-16 Cheerleader Ambassador. Being an ambassador along with going to team prep classes helped me reach my fullest potential. It was able to give me more insight on the team such as getting the right look and learning the style and overall values of the team. This Rookie season has been so rewarding.
That feeling of hitting the field for your very first time is indescribable, there are no fans like redskins fans, they make you feel right at home. This season I've been granted opportunities and memories that I'd never thought I'd have. One being able to touch the hearts of our troops while visiting Walter Reed Medical Center this past holiday season. Another one was being able to go on Fox 5 News along with a couple of teammates to discuss the season.
Overall I have been able to use this platform to inspire young people and dancers to go after their dreams and to never give up in spite of what may have already been the outcome. I have been able share this season with 7 rookie sisters 35 sisters whom I adore. I wouldn't trade this uniform, this experience or these new found blessings for the world.
