Shaun Suisham served as the Redskins' place kicker in Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, replacing Nick Novak. Suisham kicked off and attempted two PATs and one field goal in the game, a 24-14 defeat.

Explaining the Redskins' kicking situation, head coach Joe Gibbs said after the game that the team is still evaluating both Suisham and Novak.

"It's something we'll still talk about," Gibbs said. "We had a game plan there. What I wanted to do is let Shaun kick and see what he would do. But I also wanted to keep Nick.

"The facts are, we need have to be more accurate on field goals and we need more distance on kickoffs."

Suisham connected on both of his PAT attempts, but he missed the 50-yard field goal attempt in the first half. The kick sailed wide left.

Regarding Suisham's performance, Gibbs said: "I thought Shaun hit it well on kickoffs. On the field goals, he gives us distance. It was left, but it was long enough. That's something we'll just have to work our way through."

The Redskins promoted Suisham to the 53-man roster on Saturday evening, signing him and releasing defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti.

Novak, who is 5-of-10 on field goal attempts this season, remains on the roster. He struggled on kickoffs in last week's game against the Carolina Panthers, prompting the move to bring in Suisham.

Suisham, 6-0 and 205 pounds, originally signed on with the Redskins' practice squad last Tuesday. He spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys earlier this season.

Overall, Suisham has played in a total of six games in his NFL career. He is 4-of-7 on field goals and 12-for-12 on PATs. He kicked in college at Bowling Green.
