'Think Blue' Prostate Cancer Awareness Day
On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Men's Health Network (MHN) and the Washington Redskins, with the support of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), will recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by distributing 10,000 blue prostate cancer awareness ribbons and disease awareness cards to fans prior to the start of the Redskins-Rams game.
Led by Men's Health Network staff, GlaxoSmithKline, Redskins Cheerleaders, the Hogettes and other others from the Redskins family blue ribbons will be distributed to fans from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. kick-off at stadium entry gates.
Sunday's event marks the fifth partnership event between Men's Health Network, the Washington Redskins and GlaxoSmithKline promoting prostate health and overall health and wellness. Over the past several years these three organizations have teamed up to host several free health screenings for the DC Community in the Redskins locker room at FedExField.
The next free Community health screening will take place on Nov. 7 at FedExField -- it is the second annual "Time Out For Veteran's Health" health screening event.
"It's very important to spread the message of Prostate Health Awareness and it's startling when you consider the stats" says Mark Weihmann, Director of Strategic Initiatives with GlaxoSmithKline.
- 1 in 6 American men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetimes
- Prostate Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American men
"Teaming up with the Redskins and GlaxoSmithKline for this event will bring awareness to a disease that is taking the lives of thousands of men each year and having a significant impact on families. All men 40 and older should speak with their healthcare provider to discuss Prostate Health Exams that include both a PSA and DRE test." remarks Scott Williams, Vice President at Men's Health Network.
