Throwback Thursday: Redskins Bring In Haitian Sensation

!

For today's Throwback Thursday moment presented by Subway, Redskins.com looks back at the Redskins' signing of free agent wide receiver Rob Kelley in 2012. With the Redskins seeking to rebuild after three seasons with double-digit loss totals from 2009-2011, especially on the offensive side of the ball where they ranked no higher than 25thin scoring, Washington made a free agency splash on March 13, 2012, when they signed wide receiver Pierre Garçon to a five-year deal.

[internal-link-placeholder-0]The move has certainly paid off since that time: during his first four seasons in Washington, Garçon has been a force, totaling 297 receptions with 3,508 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In 2012, his first season in D.C., Garçon fought through injuries to start 10 games, leading the team with 633 receiving yards.

His very first reception was for 88 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. It was the longest pass play by the Redskins since Ed Rubbert's 88-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Allen in a strike game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals on Oct. 4, 1987, a span of 397 regular season games.

Later that season, Garçon caught a 20-yard touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in the final minute of the fourth quarter to help force overtime, a game the Redskins would go on to win.

Garçon had his best season ever in 2013 when he shattered the single-season receptions record for the Redskins, previously set by Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Monk in 1984, by catching 113 passes.

He also became the third player in NFL history to record at least five receptions in every game of a season since the adoption of the 16-game schedule in 1978.

In 2014, Garçon appeared in all 16 games once again, amassing 752 yards and three touchdowns.

Last season, the Mount Union product with Haitian roots totaled 72 receptions for 777 yards and six touchdowns, including a game-winning grab in the final minute of a Week 4 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
