Another year, another selection on NFL Network's "Top 100 Players" list.
For the sixth straight year, Washington Redskins tackle Trent Williams has been named to the Top 100 Players list, checking in at No. 57 on this year's edition.
Williams was first named to the "Top 100 Players" list, which is selected based on current player votes, at No. 99 in 2013 and has since remained a mainstay on the annual countdown.
The 2010 first-round pick has been in the top 60 players on each list over the last five years and checks in at No. 57 this year despite playing a majority of the 2017 season with an excruciatingly painful knee injury.
"At the end of the day, I'm a competitor and I always want to compete with my teammates and as a leader, as a captain sometimes you have to sacrifice your body for the betterment of the team," said Williams, who played in 10 games total during the 2017 season. "And that's the decision I made."
Despite being bothered by the knee injury, Williams was still one of the very best tackles in the league last season.
According to ProFootballFocus.com, Williams did not allow a single sack in his 10 starts.
On top of that, the Oklahoma product has allowed the fewest pressures since the start of the 2015 season amongst tackles who have recorded at least 1,200 pass block snaps.
Williams would be selected to his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl for his efforts, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Ken Houston and Redskins Ring of Fame member Len Hauss as the only members of the Redskins to earn six consecutive selections into the annual all-star game.
He also tied Hauss and Chris Samuels for the fifth-most total selections in team history and became only the seventh player in franchise history to earn at least six career Pro Bowl honors.
On top of his elite playmaking ability, Williams, who was a team captain for the seventh straight year, continued to serve as a mentor for the younger offensive linemen.
He once again hosted his Hogs 2.0 week-long camp with the positon group in Houston last summer, a tradition he plans to continue this year even while rehabbing.
"Having Trent as a leader come out and bring us out to Houston a week before training camp, so we can get the younger guys implemented on: this is what we do, this is what we're about, this is what we expect from you, it's a big deal," said starting right tackle Morgan Moses. "You don't have many guys in the NFL that do that, that fly the whole offensive line out, pay for their workouts and things like that. …Having a leader like that in Trent Williams, who's also arguably the best left tackle in the NFL, it means a lot to the guys."
While Williams underwent surgery to correct his knee injury in late December, he believes he's right on pace to make a complete and healthy comeback by the time the 2018 regular season rolls around.
"I believe I'm ahead of where I'm supposed to be," Williams recently told Redskins.com. "So that's encouraging, but I still have to tell myself every day that I don't really have to be ready until September, August. Although I am healing pretty quickly, I'm still trying to take it slow and make sure I'm 100 percent."
For his career, Williams has appeared in 107 regular season contests, starting 106 of those games.
