My mindset walking into this year's audition process was very different compared to the last two years. I walked in more confident and ready to show the judges, Stephanie and Jamilla -- our amazing directors -- and my teammates that I deserved to be back for a third season.
This past year I suffered from a severe shoulder injury, and it made me realize that more than anything I want to continue to dance. I wanted to do what I love, with the team I love, for the best fans in the NFL. During the offseason, I took some time to think about what being a Washington Redskins Cheerleader means to me and how much of an impact this team has had on my life. Coming into this season I told myself that I wouldn't hold anything back.
Immediately it seemed that my teammates all noticed this newfound confidence. It reflected in my dancing and the way I carried myself. I couldn't wait to show the judges and the fans that I was back and ready for the best season yet. I have grown so much from when I first auditioned, and I can't thank my family, friends, teammates, directors, the Redskins and Redskins Cheerleaders organization enough for everything that they have done for me and will continue to do for me.
I first auditioned when I was 18 years old with little clue about what I was doing. I just knew that I loved to dance, and I wanted the opportunity to perform in front of the best fans in the world, go on military appreciation tours and inspire little girls and boys to chase their dream. Even though I didn't make it as a cheerleader my first year, being a Cheerleader Ambassador was one of the best things I could've happened to me. Being an ambassador really helped me polish my look and gain a group of best friends, and I fell even more in love with the Redskins' organization.
Three years ago, on April 6, 2017, my lifelong dream of becoming a Washington Redskins Cheerleader came true! I still get chills every time I think of that night. The past two seasons have been surreal. I have gained so many sisters who are extraordinary role models. I have had the chance to teach our junior Redskins Cheerleaders and All-Star team and perform in front of the best audiences. I couldn't wait to audition for year three!
I have multiple favorite moments from this audition process. The main one is spending time with my team, especially the Ladies in my rookie class. We hype each other up and support each other like no one else could. Another moment is watching how all the potential rookies grew throughout the process. I remember being so scared and nervous as a potential and how much I looked up to the veterans. All of the potentials looked amazing and should be proud of how much they grew in the two weeks. I am excited to watch this new rookie class grow and become WRC throughout the season.
This year during auditions we had the chance to show our personality to the judges and the audience. Since dance is such a prominent part of my life, what better way to show my personality then putting my old pointe shoes on and bourrée across the stage. I love getting the opportunity to show everyone what my life entails "beyond the poms." As a dance major, dance teacher and choreographer, dance plays a very prominent role in my life and I loved showing everyone.
I am so enthusiastic for the season and to be back for my third season as a Washington Redskins Cheerleader. Hail to the Redskins!
