Washington has a share of first place in the NFC East after 15 weeks for the first time since 1999. * The win is the Redskins' fifth straight and gives the team its first five-game regular season winning streak since Weeks 13-17 of the 2005 season. * The Redskins are 8-6 this season and are at least two games above .500 after 14 or more games for the first time since being 9-7 after the final week of the 2007 season. * The Redskins' eight wins on the season are the team's highest total since 2008. * Head Coach Mike Shanahan now has 173rd combined regular season and postseason victories as an NFL head coach, bringing him within one win of tying Mike Holmgren for 11th all-time in NFL history. * Shanahan remains undefeated against the Browns in his career, improving to 5-0 against Cleveland as an NFL head coach. * Washington's scoring output marked the seventh time this season the Redskins have reached the 30-point plateau in a game this season, the team's most since scoring 30 points or more in eight games in 1991. * The Redskins have 16 rushing touchdowns this season, the team's most since accumulating 23 rushing touchdowns during the 1999 season. *
Quarterback Kirk Cousins made his first NFL start. He and Robert Griffin III became the first duo to each have started a game for the Redskins as rookies in the same season since Heath Shuler and Gus Frerotte in 1994. * With Cousins' victory on Sunday and Griffin III's win at New Orleans in Week 1, the Redskins became the first team in a non-strike season to have two different rookie quarterbacks win their first career starts in the same season since rookies John Elway and Gary Kubiak won their starting debuts with the Denver Broncos in 1983. * Cousins completed 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards with two touchdowns, all career highs. Cousins' 329 passing yards are the most by a Redskin this season and are the most by a Redskin since Rex Grossman's 336 vs. the New York Giants in Week 17 of the 2010 season. * Cousins' 26 completions matched the Redskins' season high (26 – Griffin III at Tampa Bay in Week 4). * The game was Cousins' first 300-yard passing performance and is the fourth 300-yard performance by a Redskins quarterback this season (three by Griffin III, one by Cousins). * The Redskins became the first team in NFL history to have two different rookie quarterbacks post 300-yard passing games in the same season. * Washington joins Atlanta, Jacksonville and Philadelphia as one of four teams to have two different players record 300-yard passing games this season. * Running back Alfred Morris finished the game with 26 carries for 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The two rushing touchdowns give him nine on the season, surpassing Skip Hicks (eight in 1998) to set the Redskins' record for rushing touchdowns in a rookie season. *
The game was Morris' second multi-touchdown game of his career and his first since his NFL debut at New Orleans in Week 1. * Morris' 1,322 rushing yards this season currently sit as the seventh-best single-season total in team history. * Washington gained 430 net yards, marking the sixth time this season the Redskins have eclipsed the 400-yard mark. Washington is 5-1 in those games. * The Redskins' six 400-yard games are the most the team has had in a single season since 1999 (six). * The Redskins got on the board when Cousins connected with wide receiver Leonard Hankerson for a 54-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter. * The touchdown was Cousins' third passing touchdown of the season. * The touchdown reception was Hankerson's second of the season and second of his career. It was his first touchdown since his 68-yard touchdown reception in Week 2 at St. Louis. * The Redskins now have seven passing touchdowns of 50 yards or more this season (five by Griffin III and two by Cousins). This marks the most by the Redskins since 1966 (seven – all by Sonny Jurgensen). * Defensive end Doug Worthington, who played collegiately in Ohio at Ohio State, registered his first career pass defensed, batting down a Brandon Weeden pass in the second quarter. * Running back Evan Royster recorded a career-long 25-yard reception in the second quarter. * Kicker Kai Forbath connected on his only field goal attempt of the game, converting a 44-yard attempt to move to 15-for-15 for his career and give Washington its first lead of the game. * Forbathis now one field goal shy of tying Garrett Hartley's NFL record for consecutive field goals made to begin a career (16). * The field goal gave Washington 118 points in the second quarter of games this season, the most they've scored in any quarter since scoring 132 in the second quarter of games during the 2002 season. *
Linebacker Rob Jackson intercepted Weeden on the first drive of the second half. It was the third interception of the season for Jackson and the third of his career. * On the ensuing drive, Morris scored his eighth rushing touchdown of the season on a three-yard run. The touchdown run tied Morris with Hicks (eight in 1998) for the Redskins rookie record for rushing touchdowns in a season before breaking the record later in the game. * Later in the quarter, Cousins and Hankerson connected for their second touchdown of the day. It was Cousins' fourth career passing touchdown and Hankerson's third career receiving touchdown. * It marks the first two-touchdown passing day and the first two-touchdown receiving day in the careers of Cousins and Hankerson, respectively. * Hankerson's two touchdowns on the game were the first multi-touchdown game by a Redskins receiver since Santana Moss in Week 7 at New York. *
LinebackerLondon Fletcherrecorded his fourth interception of the season, picking off Weeden for the 22rd interception of his career. His 22 interceptions tie him with Chicago's Brian Urlacher for second-most by an active linebacker. * Fletcher's four interceptions this season tie his single-season career high, set in 2000 with St. Louis and 2006 with Buffalo. * The two interceptions gave the Washington defense its sixth multi-interception game of the season, the most by the team since 2007 (six). * Royster recorded his second career rushing touchdown, capping a 10-play, 67-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. * The touchdown gives Washington 96 points off turnovers this season, the team's most since scoring 96 points off turnovers in the 1999 season. The Redskins had 43 points off turnovers in 16 games last season. * Royster recorded his first career kickoff return, gaining 22 yards on a fourth-quarter kick return. * Wide receiverJoshua Morgan had a 32-yard reception in the fourth quarter, a season long. * Morris capped an eight-play, 76-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run. The rushing touchdown was his ninth of the season and gave him sole possession of the Redskins' rookie record. * Morris' nine rushing touchdowns are the most since Clinton Portis' nine rushing touchdowns in 2008. * Jackson and nose tackle Barry Cofield each recorded a sack. Jackson has a career-high 4.5 sacks this season. * The victory was Washington's fourth road win of the season, the most by the team since winning four road games in 2010. * The win marks the team's second win against an AFC opponent this season and is the first time the team has defeated AFC opponents in consecutive weeks since defeating Houston and Jacksonville in Weeks 2-3 of the 2006 season.
