Landover, Md., and Herndon, Va. – Aug. 27, 2024 – The Washington Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) today announced a new, multi-year, exclusive naming-rights agreement for the football team's stadium, bringing together two institutions with a storied history in the region and community. The agreement, which marks a new chapter for the Washington Commanders, will rebrand the team's home from Commanders Field to Northwest Stadium. On September 15th, the two organizations will officially kick off the extension and expansion of their existing partnership through a joint press conference at the stadium before the Commanders' home opener.
"Northwest Federal Credit Union has been an integral part of this community for generations and we could not be prouder to partner with an organization as committed to the DMV as we are," said Washington Commanders Managing Partner Josh Harris. "As we continue to work toward our goal of building the Commanders into an elite franchise that consistently competes for championships, we are excited to welcome our team and fans to Northwest Stadium and look forward to creating incredible memories together on the field and in the communities we serve."
"Northwest is thrilled to continue building on the great work we have achieved alongside the Commanders," said Northwest Federal Credit Union President & CEO Jeff Bentley. "With a combined history of nearly 170 years in the D.C. metro area, this expanded partnership was an amazing alignment of our values to enrich the local community. It is an honor to be able to welcome everyone to 'Northwest Stadium' and introduce the inspiring initiatives that this collaboration represents. Together, we look forward to ensuring that Northwest Stadium is an impactful place where we rally together over our common love of football, giving back to the community, and creating memorable experiences that last a lifetime."
This expanded partnership includes exclusive Northwest branding across the stadium, including a new stadium logo featured on exterior and interior signage, as well as Northwest serving as the team's jersey patch partner for off-season and in-season practices. Additionally, the partnership will extend several new experiences and benefits to Commanders fans who are Northwest members, such as discounts on tickets and merchandise.
Together, Northwest and the Commanders aim to combine efforts and further their reach to make a difference. Today's news strengthens an existing multi-year partnership between the two organizations. In 2023, Northwest became the Commanders' Official Credit Union Partner, which established Northwest as a vital partner of several Commanders' charitable events, including the "Commanders Read" community program, the Northern Virginia Science Center STEM event, and the annual Commanders "Harvest Feast."
Northwest is an organization that strives to not only empower people with their finances through quality products and services, but also has a consistent track record of prioritizing work in the community. The credit union collaborates with more than 140 charitable organizations and has a 501c3 foundation that focuses on providing youth with resources that enable them to thrive. With the credit union covering the overhead costs, 100% of donations go back to the community. The NWFCU Foundation conducts various donation drives for food, health, hygiene, school supplies, and more, which have touched thousands of lives. In addition to offering mentoring, career readiness, and financial literacy programs, the foundation's Aspire Higher Scholarship Program reached a milestone of awarding more than $2 million to 400 students over the years, offering them critical support to pursue their educational goals.
The Northwest-Commanders naming-rights deal marks the beginning of a new era for Commanders fans and new heights in the community work that can be accomplished. The deal was secured in collaboration with Elevate to negotiate a community-driven, naming-rights partnership between the Washington Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union, which is the first naming-rights partnership for a credit union in NFL history. The organizations are thrilled to celebrate this exciting announcement and continue to unveil upcoming initiatives. More information regarding the September 15th press conference at the Commanders' first home game of the season at Northwest Stadium will be announced in the coming days.
