Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 6/7

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Friday, June 7, 2013.

--The Redskins had one of the most successful offenses in the NFL last year despite the unconventional scheme. Regardless of whether or not Robert Griffin III starts the season under cent, how much should the coaches consider changes a scheme that works?

--Is the offensive success in Washington last season predicated by the healthy presence of quarterback Robert Griffin III, or could another signal caller lead the way?

--After a bizarre offseason hot balloon accident led to severe burns, former Redskins receiver Donte Stallworth is back in football shape and looking for another opportunity. The Redskins have young guys that they like, but reports say the team is interested enough to schedule a workout.

--After what feels like an eternity away from the team, third-year running back Roy Helu Jr. has  re-emerged on the practice field and looks to be back to his old, elusive self.

--Redskins punter Sav Rocca returned to the team after testing free agency this offseason, and hopes to improve on last year's career-high 44 yards per punt average. He should be better suited to do that after knee surgery and rehab has him kicking from two good legs again.

--Donovan McNabb may be skeptical that Robert Griffin III can handle the pressure of being a franchise quarterback and celebrity on the side, but Rex Grossman, who boasts similar career numbers, sees no problem with his teammate's conduct. Grossman: "[Griffin III] is extremely smart and understands everything he's doing. Sometimes the celebrity, the stardom, is just a living thing on its own."

--Regardless of where you stand in the Robert Griffin III vs. Donovan McNabb debate, RG3 doesn't really mind. As far as he is concerned, "[McNabb] is free to have that opinion."

--Will the Redskins repeat as NFC East division champions? Will the defense improve enough to take pressure off the offense in 2013? These answers and more in one reporter's mailbag.

--Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III turns heads with his statement, that "without a doubt" he thinks he can be ready to take the field on Day 1 of Redskins training camp in Richmond, Va.

--Redskins top draft pick, cornerback David Amerson, is a Navy brat and understands the military mentality that paved his road to success. His life coach and confidant? His father, a Navy psychologist.

--Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo talked up his return, along with defensive end Adam Carriker and safety Brandon Meriweather to the field. Add in four young defensive backs and he says "We feel like a top-10 defense."
