The Washington Redskins announced today that linebacker Marcus Washington has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December. He anchored a defense that won the final five games of the regular season recording 35 tackles, four sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Washington began the month with seven tackles, one sack and a pass deflection at St. Louis. Against Arizona, he recorded five tackles and a fumble recovery. In the match-up against Dallas, Washington recorded seven tackles, one forced fumble, two sacks and a career-long 41-yard interception return. The following week against the New York Giants he tallied five tackles (three solo). In the regular season finale in Philadelphia , Washington tied for the team high with 11 tackles (nine solo), one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Washington is in his second season with the Redskins and his sixth in the NFL from the University of Auburn. This is his first Defensive Player of the Month award.
