Redskins.com's Stephen Czarda looked at recent mock drafts to see what pundits are saying about Washington's second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
While mock drafts have been frequent ever since the turn of the calendar to 2017, recent updates have expanded to include potential second-round pick options in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Washington Redskins, of course, hold the No. 17-overall pick this year. They also will select in the second round at pick No. 49 on Friday, April 28.
Yes, it is hard enough as is to project just where prospects will be selected in the first round, but below are a few names draft pundits are picking for the Redskins in the second round:
Defensive Tackle Caleb Brantley
In a joint two-round mock draft posted last week, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay (Insider access required) differed on who Washington may pick in the second round.
Kiper Jr. has the Redskins picking Florida defensive tackle Caleb Brantley in the second round after selecting Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey at No. 17.
In three seasons at Florida, Brantley tallied 80 total tackles (20.5 for loss) and 5.5 sacks.
Brantley has received some high praise in his NFL.com draft profile, drawing comparisons to Los Angeles Rams All-Pro Aaron Donald.
Running Back Joe Mixon
McShay, meanwhile, currently has Washington picking up a running back in the second round – Oklahoma's Joe Mixon – after drafting Alabama linebacker Rueben Foster in the first round.
The conjecture on Mixon's draft placement has been widespread, as he has the talent to be an impact player in the NFL but was suspended in 2014 after an assault charge. He was also not invited to the 2017 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
During the 2016 season, Mixon rushed for nearly 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns along with 37 receptions for 538 yards and five additional touchdowns.
Quarterback Davis Webb

NFL.com's Chad Reuter's mock draft expanded to a five-round variety recently, with the Redskins selecting California quarterback Davis Webb in the second round after picking Ohio State safety Malik Hooker in the first round.
After serving as a backup to 2016 No. 1-overall pick Jared Goff, Webb received his chance to shine as a senior, passing for 4,295 yards with 37 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions for the Golden Bears.
Reuter, meanwhile has the Redskins selecting Iowa cornerback Desmond King in the third round, Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine and Texas A&M wide receiver Josh Reynolds in the fourth round and Wisconsin linebacker Vince Biegel in the fifth round.
Linebacker Zach Cunningham
In an updated mock draft posted on Tuesday, CBSSports.com's Dane Brugler has the Redskins nabbing Vanderbilt's Zach Cunningham.
During his junior season in 2016, Cunningham became the first Vanderbilt player in school history to earn unanimous first-team All-American honors.
The 6-foot-4, 230 pounder was a finalist for the Butkus Award, given to the country's top linebacker, and was a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the top defensive player adjusted by the Maxwell Football Club.
Cunningham finished the season with 125 tackles (16.5 for loss) along with two forced fumbles and a pass defensed.
"Cunningham has the play range and instincts that the Redskins need in the middle of the defense," Brugler writes.
Defensive End Tanoh Kpassagnon
WalterFootball.com's Charlie Campbell currently believes the Redskins will go back-to-back defensive picks to start the 2017 NFL Draft, with Washington taking USC cornerback Adoree' Jackson in the first round and Villanova defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon in the second round.
In four seasons with the Wildcats, Kpassagnon – 6-foot-7, 290 pounds -- recorded 105 tackles (37.5 for loss) along with 22 sacks, four fumbles recovered, three fumbles forced and an interception.
He was named 2016 Defensive Player of the Year for the Colonial Athletic Association.
Defensive End Chris Wormley
Finally, WalterFootball.com's Walter Cherepinsky has Washington selecting Michigan defensive end Chris Wormley at No. 49.
Wormley finished the 2016 season with 40 tackles, six sacks and two blocked field goals.
According to his NFL.com draft profile, Wormley has a "well-built, thick frame from head to toe."
"Natural bender with ease of movement and agility for a man his size. Has experience playing inside and outside. Comes out low and aggressively off snap. Able to generate bullrush with speed-to-power drive into tackles. Hints of arm-over and spin moves as rusher. Good technician at point of attack. Sets strong, decisive edge with leverage, arm extension and anchor. Pursuit speed gives him extended tackle radius. Able to close down the line quickly and restrict cutback lanes. Balance is excellent; rarely seen on the ground. Able to plow through redirect blocks when charging through gaps. Fairly disciplined in approach. Aware and reactive to jet sweeps and counters. Student of the game and a willing leader," his profile states.
