Left tackle Trent Williams and tight end Fred Davis were placed back on the Redskins' active roster this week.
Williams and Davis returned from four game, season-ending suspensions for substance abuse violations. They were at Redskins Park on Monday to attend the final team meeting and clean out their lockers.
They were not available to speak to the media.
Both Williams and Davis face pivotal offseasons, head coach Mike Shanahan said.
Williams made impressive strides in his second season in the NFL and was showing signs of dominance in the games prior to his suspension.
Shanahan said that Williams – the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft – must continue to show a strong work ethic and prove to coaches and teammates that he's dedicated.
"He has to be smart enough to understand that if you disappoint your football team like he did, you better come back with a passion and show people you've got the work ethic and the drive to do what we need him to do," Shanahan said.
Added Shanahan: "We know what type of talent he has. He has to prove that he can do it on a day-to-day basis and set the standard for the rest of our football team and our organization."
Davis's situation is a little more complicated because he enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
Last season, Davis emerged as one of the Redskins' top offensive threats, particularly after fellow tight end Chris Cooley was slowed by a knee injury.
He posted a career-high 59 catches for 796 yards and three touchdowns.
If Davis had not been suspended, he likely would have surpassed 1,000 receiving yards on the season. He certainly would have set a franchise record for receiving yards by a tight end.
Shanahan was asked if his evaluation of Davis has changed due to the suspension.
"You know, Fred made a mistake," Shanahan said. "We sat down and talked about his mistake. I do feel very good about Fred as a person. I liked the way he worked. I like his attitude. I like his development over the last year and a half since I've been here.
"I think he's had a complete change in the way he's handled himself off the field to prepare himself to be a consummate pro with working out. Hopefully the mistake won't happen again that he made this year."
