Washington has welcomed a new su-paw star to the squad! Barney comes to the team as part of a brand-new partnership with Warrior Canine Connection, a Maryland-based nonprofit that breeds, trains and places highly-skilled service dogs with veterans in need. The young Labrador is named in honor of Colonel Harvey Curtiss "Barney" Barnum Jr., a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam.

The Washington Commanders and Bank of America joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland for a volunteer build day to support affordable housing and community projects in the local area. On Wednesday, April 17th, volunteers from the Washington Commanders and Bank of America rolled up their sleeves and donned their hard hats as they joined Habitat for Humanity to help with volunteer projects such as Allium Place, a new affordable housing community, and neighborhood engagement projects at Montgomery County Public Schools. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the Commanders' and Bank of America's ongoing commitments to making a positive impact in the local community.

On Wednesday, June 14, the Washington Commanders announced a $75,000 donation to Digital Pioneers Academy to assist in the launch of its first-ever football program. Commanders President Jason Wright, Commanders players Saahdiq Charles, Kamren Curl, Jarrett Patterson, and Darrick Forest and Commanders Director of Alumni Engagement joined a student assembly on the Digital Pioneers Academy's last day of school.

Digital Pioneers Academy is a public charter school operating two campuses in the District of Columbia seeking fundraising support for the launch of its football program, expected to begin in the fall. The Commanders are proud to support this effort, particularly as the Digital Pioneers Academy community recovers from the recent loss of two students to gun violence.

On Saturday, Aug. 6, the Commanders welcomed Josiah Desper, an 11-year-old football lover who recently finished his maintenance treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and his family for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at FedExField. On the night of the team's open practice, Josiah was invited into the locker room by Coach Rivera, met his favorite players, received a personalized jersey, ran drills on the field and more.
