David Blackburn is entering his first season as director of player personnel with the Washington Commanders after serving as director of college scouting for the Baltimore Ravens for two seasons (2022-23).
Blackburn joins the Commanders after working for the Baltimore Ravens for the past 17 years. In Baltimore he most recently held the role of director of college scouting. In that role, Blackburn oversaw the Baltimore college scouting process and played a vital role in planning for the NFL Draft.
Blackburn joined the Baltimore Ravens organization in 2007 as a player personnel assistant. He worked his way up the Baltimore scouting department eventually becoming an area scout in the West from 2012-2019. He was promoted to the role of national scout and held that position from 2020-21 before being promoted to director of college scouting following the 2022 NFL Draft.
Blackburn worked as a graduate assistant for Butler University in 2006 prior to joining the Ravens organization. During his one season at Butler he assisted with the defensive backs.
An Indianapolis, In. native, Blackburn graduated from DePauw University with a degree in economics and a minor in history. While at DePauw, he was a four-year starter at cornerback for the football program. He was a team captain during his senior season and became the school's only four-time All-SCAC (Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) selection.
Blackburn was inducted into the DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2020 class. He also received the DePauw Young Alumni Award in 2018. Blackburn has also served on both the DePauw Alumni Association Board of Directors and the DePauw Board of Visitors. Blackburn is married to his wife, Kishia and the couple have two sons, David III and Khyris, and a daughter, Aubree.
